51³Ô¹ÏÍø (Element) has announced that its recently opened state-of-the-art aerospace materials testing laboratory in Shanghai, China has added General Electric’s GE S400 to its impressive list of accreditations.

The 30,000 sq. ft. laboratory provides a materials testing facility that specializes in the testing of both metallic and non-metallic materials for the Aerospace, Medical Device, Energy and Chemical Processing sectors.

GE S400 is awarded following an audit process to suppliers who provide services to GE required standards. The audit process ensures suppliers adopt rigorous requirements, and therefore confirms that 51³Ô¹ÏÍøis working to the highest specified standard on metallurgical evaluations, mechanical testing and related specimen machining.

The award joins an impressive list of accreditations held by 51³Ô¹ÏÍøShanghai including, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Nadcap, A2LA and a range of OEM approvals.

Rick Sluiters, EVP for Aerospace, 51³Ô¹ÏÍøcommented: “Since opening last year, our new laboratory in Shanghai has acquired accreditation and approvals that confirm its place as a leading provider to the aerospace and manufacturing industries in China and beyond. The laboratory offers local access to experts and equipment, saving customers time and money. The access to Element’s global network of technical capability, capacity and expertise brings additional benefits to working with the team in Shanghai.

“The investment in our laboratory has been in direct response to customer demand for destructive testing services on metals and composite materials as the region experiences considerable growth in our core sectors. This latest certification highlights that our team in Shanghai consistently delivers the highest standards of testing.”

The 51³Ô¹ÏÍøShanghai laboratory has a fully equipped machine shop for specimen preparation and delivers a comprehensive range of services that include chemical analysis, mechanical testing, fatigue testing, metallurgical analysis, failure investigation and on-site testing. It also has a number of heat furnaces for the heat treatment of materials prior to testing.

Element’s support of the Chinese aerospace sector is well established, having successfully delivered a one year project to investigate the hydrodynamic behaviour of the new Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) C919 aircraft at the 51³Ô¹ÏÍøWarwick laboratory in the UK.
